With the release of ChatGPT-4o, the possibilities for interaction have massively expanded. The update introduces groundbreaking voice capabilities that produce human-like audio, allowing for entirely hands-free conversations. Itβs been programmed to sound chatty, and will even respond flirtatiously to some prompts! This enhancement also extends to visual and audio processing, enabling instant analysis of pictures, videos and sounds with impressive detail. For example, ChatGPT can now analyse and translate text from a foreign menu just from a photo, or provide a play-by-play explanation of the rules when watching sports. OpenAI have also made significant progress on ChatGPTβs memory abilities, allowing it to recall and adapt to user preferences or gather info from previous conversations. Itβs clear that ChatGPT is going to have a profound impact on our lives over the next few years, and with this latest update weβre left wondering just how deep that impact will be.

A comprehensive study from the University of Oxford has suggested that, contrary to expectations, the internet actually enhances our wellbeing. After examining data from 2.4 million people across 168 countries over 15 years, scientists found that internet access is linked to an 8.5% increase in life satisfaction and an 8.3% rise in positive experiences. They also discovered that 84.9% of the correlations between internet use and wellbeing were positive. Professor Andrew Przybylski emphasised the need for open-mindedness and nuanced approaches in making the online world safer for young people. Co-researcher Matti Vuorre highlighted the surprising positive correlation, underscoring the importance of context in the screen time debate. The findings, published in the American Psychological Associationβs journal, call for more data sharing from platform providers to deepen the understanding of the internet's impact on daily life.
