🚀 Big Tech & Startup
Well, that didn’t take long - ChatGPT makers OpenAI may have just hit their first major roadblock. A lawsuit in the US wants to look into the legality of where AI is harvesting it’s information from, alleging some of it comes from private or copyrighted sources and accusing Big Tech companies of acting with impunity when building their latest language models.
Bots trawling the web for info is nothing new. This, however, is a different story, as the companies accused of stealing the info are the ones that have traditionally put measures in place to prevent it from happening. The question now is whether these companies have chosen to bypass their own security measures in an attempt to gain an advantage, and what the implications of this are for the wider public. One thing is for certain though - the debate around AI is only going to heat up in the months to come.
🔭 Science & Futuristic Tech
UFO’s have been a hot topic of discussion ever since the infamous incident at Roswell in 1947. For a long time, believers in extra terrestrial visitors have been ridiculed and told to put their tinfoil hats back on. However, following whistleblower David Grusch’s recent testimony at a Congressional hearing dedicated to UFO’s, it may be appear that not only are we not alone - they’re a lot closer than we previously thought.
The UFO story has picked up the pace in recent times, following the declassification and release of three videos from the Pentagon that show aircraft that appear to be far beyond our current technological abilities. Grusch’s testimony takes this one step further, alleging that the US Government has not only been aware of these visitors, but has been in possession of alien spacecraft, and has been attempting to reverse engineer their technology for close to a century. Whatever the truth is, we may be one step (or giant leap) closer to finding out.
🧑💻 Dev, Data & Design
For most devs, Stack Overflow has saved the day many times, serving as an invaluable resource when nothing seems to squash that bug. In a u-turn on their previous position on AI, it could be about to become even more useful with the introduction of OverflowAI.
Devs have been using AI to generate code and fix bugs ever since ChatGPT exploded on to the scene last year. However, the code it generates isn’t always reliable, and some of this code is already finding it’s way onto Stack Overflow. In an effort to combat this, OverflowAI is a conversational search tool that will allow users to search through Stack Overflow’s existing database of 58 million questions and answers. It will go into alpha testing this month, with a full release surely not too far behind.
