🚀 Big Tech & Startup
The advancements in AI technology have taken the world by storm. But, some countries aren’t as impressed. Italy became the first Western country to block the advanced chatbot ChatGPT.
The privacy concerns surrounding the AI platform triggered the Italian data-protection authority to put a temporary ban on its use within the country until further investigations had been carried out.
The main concerns of the authority included:
no legal basis to justify "the mass collection and storage of personal data for the purpose of 'training' the algorithms underlying the operation of the platform"
no way to verify the age of users, the app "exposes minors to absolutely unsuitable answers compared to their degree of development and awareness"
OpenAI has since restored its services in Italy, after implementing changes to satisfy Italian regulators. 🇮🇹

El Niño is turning the heat up 🔥
Climate changes have had many effects on the planet already, including soaring baseline temperature rises. But there are concerns that temperatures are set to rise even further. A weather pattern known as El Niño is going to make things even hotter.
WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas has stated that the result of El Niño will “push global temperatures into uncharted territory” and “will have far-reaching repercussions for health, food security, water management and the environment. We need to be prepared.”
So, are we humans to blame? Yes, yes we are! There’s now a 66 per cent chance that between 2023 and 2027, the annual average global temperature will rise more than 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than the preindustrial era (aka before burning fossil fuels created enough greenhouse gas pollution to heat the planet). It might not sound like a big deal, but the small temperature increase has bigger implications for the planet than you might think. 🌍
