Facebook is collaborating with Ray-Ban to build its own AR glasses. Facebook’s AI team is researching systems that are constantly analysing lives, including using first-person video to record what they see, do and hear each day. Naturally, this is creating a lot of privacy concerns. 🕵️
The dataset created is the biggest of its kind with over 3,205 hours (or 133 days) of footage to go through, from participants across the globe. “The project has the chance to really catalyze work in this field in a way that hasn’t really been possible yet,” says Facebook AI research scientist Kristen Grauman.

2022 is labelled as the year of the startup with more than a quarter (27%) of the workforce in the UK planning to start their own venture, according to TechRadar Pro. Tech Nation revealed that there was the equivalent of a new tech business launched every half an hour throughout 2020, with tens of thousands of new jobs created. 💼
With life being disrupted for so long, but now slowly returning to how it was pre-pandemic in the UK, it’s anticipated that people are looking to take more control of their own lives - and by becoming their own boss this is an element of it.
But it’s not easy - as of 2018, the tech startup industry has the highest startup business failure rate, at 63%. 💸
There’s no doubt that in 10 years the tech landscape will look completely different to how it is today. According to Dell Technologies, 85% of the jobs that will exist in 2030 haven’t been invented yet.

Meet Ray 👋Lead Software Engineer and Haystack user.
If you're not familiar with Haystack and are wondering how it works, Ray can talk a little more about that. He shared his experience with Haystack and how it helped him discover new opportunities. 🚀
At the time I wasn’t looking for a role, but I was interested in seeing what was out there. I had no plans on finding a new job and I was just dipping my toe in to see what was out there – that’s what prompted me to download the app.
Ray was initially very clear on what Haystack was, which is why he came back a few months later to check out the latest opportunities!
I thought it was a very unique idea and it was pretty clear what its purpose was. I remember it being relatively easy and straightforward to use. A couple of months later, I changed my mind and decided I’d start seriously looking for a new role. My first point of call was Haystack and I started to follow some companies.

Things I Wish I’d Known as a Junior Developer
Things in the tech world move fast and there weren't as many resources around to help people get into frontend development and learn how to build something from HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc. There weren't as many great communities like Dev or Hashnode or WeStryve, or learning platforms such as Free Code Camp or The Odin Project.
