Tech giant Apple is always releasing exciting innovative features - the latest being that iPhones could soon be able to accept contactless payments.
This will be a huge win for small businesses, which will be able to utilise the new feature without the requirements of extra hardware. Apple has reportedly been working on this feature since 2020 when they acquired Mobeewave, a Canadian startup that specialises in transforming phones into payment portals. But how will it work? The user simply types in the amount they want to charge, and the customer taps their credit card on the back of the device.
We could see the introduction of this feature to our phones come early spring, with the final version of iOS 15.4. ๐ฒ
๐ Supporting Early Years Talent
Not enough is being done to help and support self-taught developers or university graduates to get into the world of tech.
Itโs competitive, challenging, and can be incredibly frustrating. Getting that important first step on the career ladder can seem like an impossible and daunting task.
So, Haystack is changing the game. Tech roles that require less than 12 months of experience will be completely free-forever to post. If you know someone, or a company, that could benefit from knowing this, tell them and signpost them! ๐
Supporting and nurturing emerging tech talent is how we shape the leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators of tomorrow. There is a level of responsibility that we all hold to be as socially responsible as we can, and give back to the community when we can.

Why donโt developers take accessibility seriously? ๐ค
โI feel like I donโt matter at allโ. Senior Design Systems Engineer, Melanie Sumner has heard this from people who need assistive technology to use websites but often find them completely unusable. When it comes to design, there are things that need to be considered - such as colour contrast and interactive elements, just to name a few. More often than not, we build websites from a sighted userโs perspective and, as a result, itโs not uncommon for accessibility-focused design and development to be ignored.
What processes and procedures do you go through to ensure your design and development is accessible? Just some food for thought.
In other news, Gmail is getting a glow-up. ๐ From this week, Gmail is rolling out its new interface and you can opt-in and revert to โclassic Gmailโ if you donโt get on with it.
The integrated view will make it easier to swap between Mail, Chat, Spaces and Meets. Itโll also make it easier to search - with an enhanced search bar including both email and chats so you donโt have to navigate to different places.
